DA and DOH announced yesterday that Ebola Reston strain was found in pigs in farms, in the provinces of Pangasinan, Bulacan and Nueva Ecija.
Department of Agriculture Secretary Yap and Department of Health Secretary Duque announced the finding. They assured the public that it’s an animal health issue.
Duque assured the public that the virus is of low pathogenecity, and it is different from African Ebola hemorrhagic virus.
Yap ordered a halt to all pork exports until the virus has been completely eliminated from local piggery.
They advised the public and food handlers to follow 5 food safety rules. These are:
1. keep clean and separate raw and cooked food
2. cook thoroughly
3. keep food at safe temperature
4. use safe water
5. select fresh food
