Former Philippine President Cory C. Aquino, died on Saturday, August 1, 2009. Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III said that she died of cardio-respiratory arrest at exactly 3:18 a.m. Saturday – (1918 GMT Friday).

1st Influenza A(H1N1) Case in the Philippines

The Department of Health in the Philippines confirms today the first case of Swine Flu, which also known as Novel influenza A (H1N1).

The first case is a girl who arrived on May 18, 2009. The symptoms – fever, cough, and sore throat – developed a day after her arrival in the Philippines while the test results came Thursday afternoon from RITM in Muntinlupa City. The 10 year old Filipina came from a trip to US and Canada. She is currently monitored and under quarantine.

Iligan Blasts

Two Iligan department stores are hit by bombings leaving three persons dead and 47 injured.

The first blast was in Unicity. The second bomb exploded at the JBC Bargain Center.

Two cellphone-activated mortars were used.

Ebola Reston Found in 4 Farms in the Philippines

DA and DOH announced yesterday that Ebola Reston strain was found in pigs in farms, in the provinces of Pangasinan, Bulacan and Nueva Ecija.

Department of Agriculture Secretary Yap and Department of Health Secretary Duque announced the finding. They assured the public that it’s an animal health issue.

Euro General Controversy

Retired PNP Comptroller Eliseo dela Paz finallly surrendered to senate Sergant-at-arms yesterday.

The senate ordered his arrest after failing to attend the Senate Hearing.

Senator Lacson turned over Dela Paz to the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Jose Balajadia. Dela Paz will be detained in a holding room in the Senate basement.
